Barry Thomas
Half of my working life was spent in a workshop - teaching, making silverware, and carving lettering on stone. The other half was involved with IT. I wrote a typesetting system for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and I wrote books and user guides for a wide range of IT hardware and software.
I was diagnosed with ACC in my trachea in 2014. The fantastic NHS teams in Nottingham and Derby carried out surgery and gave me radiotherapy and today I am well. I don't have a medical background, so my focus as part of SGC UK is on patients and how they navigate their diagnosis, their treatment, and their experiences afterwards.
As a patient SGC UK has helped me enormously. I am proud to now do my small part as a member of the amazing team at SGC.
