Radiofrequency ablation (RFA)

RFA or thermal ablation is not radiation treatment as it uses microwaves or ultrasound to heat up tumours so that they die.  Tumours must be <3cm to be treated effectively, although larger tumours can sometimes be treated.

In the UK, the treatment is approved by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence ('NICE') but is not readily available on the NHS and there are only a few clinicians providing this treatment privately.
